Whew! The last of my birds went out yesterday, from my June Auction. “Thank You” to everyone who participated in bidding on my birds! It's always difficult to send them out, but they're going to some Very Nice people who seem to be as excited with the serama breed as I am, and it's exciting to think I'll see pictures of their future offspring. Whether purchased for pets or for breeding, I thank everyone again for wanting to own my birds…it is most flattering!
Oh…in the process of gathering birds yesterday, I made one of those “command” decisions…This last auction was w-a-a-a-y too much to handle, so I will not be doing “big” auctions again in the Fall. I promised myself to limit the number of eggs hatched this summer, and to try hatching smaller numbers, but perhaps more often. Wait a minute, doesn't that end up being a “large” number of birds anyway? Shhhh, don't tell anyone!!!
Hi there, Juliette!
Well, it was a great auction, I’m so happy I managed to win some of your birds! The bidding was fierce a couple of times there, lol. But my new birdies are wonderful, and they’re starting to settle in now! 🙂
I hope you don’t slow down on the hatching too much . . . 😉
I’m fighting to keep myself in check, but it’s h-a-r-d! All I think about, it seems, is hatching and breeding and who-gets-paired-with-whom…Hatching is ridiculously easy for me (for whatever reason), but it’s finding room to raise all those babies for the next three months that’s the hard part, especially when the little boys “think” they’re men! <_<
Hi Juliette,
I am a new Serama Breeder in Texas and hoping to find out some info about shipping seramas. Our weather is brutal in Texas right now as our outside temps are in the triple digits. At 101 degrees today. I am
afraid to try to ship any of my birds with the weather being so hot. I read your post about it taking 2 to 3 days for USPS so I am thinking it may be best to wait for cooler weather to ship any birds. How do you ship your birds safely? I would appreciate any information you can provide me. Thank you. Lisa Balogun
Lisa-
My apologies for not getting back to you sooner! I would not recommend shipping birds out until September…even if the temps are OK where you are, chances are they’ll still have to travel through some “hot pockets” along their journey! I hydrate all my birds with an eyedropper and electrolytes before placing them into the shipping box, and I include some food and a container full of chopped watermelon so they have something to “drink”. Most birds arrive at their destination in 1-2 days, but you should really consider waiting to ship until the Fall, when the cooler temperatures are here! I also wait until the end of the day before leaving my birds at the PO, the less time “in the box”, the better!
